Scar head - Lion King Musical - chaps

Scar chaps.... OMG chaps.... I hate these chaps ¬_¬
Hard to believe, but of this whole costume, the chaps are so far the MOST expensive and the MOST time consuming and the MOST work.

Yup..... chaps....
The leather I got at Tandy Leatherworks... it's a huge 62 square foot upholstery hide.... over $500. I've used about 2/3 of it sofar.

First... cut a V from the leather.... then run it through the sewing machine to get the texture....
Repeat about 120 times.

Then pin all the pieces together and cut the edges to the pattern.
Then sew all the pieces you pinned.

That's ONE leg.... it took me all day. I still have another one to do.

Once the leather parts are done, I need to sew black lining to the pants and sew them together D:
Oh chaps, how I hate you..... T_T

Scar head - Lion King Musical - shoulder harness thingy part 2

Back to work on Scar.... His harness is nearly done:

Put together... I drilled holes in key points and put the basic frame together, then drilled more holes and sewed pieces of latex tubing to the frame.

Several coats of paint later... the whole thing is starting to look like Bamboo :3

Also stretched out a series of tubes and painted them. These are for the corset part.

Hard to believe, but I bought 35 feet of medical tubing for this and I have already run out!
I still need to make the butt plate and arm guards.... I'm going to need at least another 20 feet. I'm starting to realize why actors claim Scar is a heavy costume to wear.... even when you use alternative materials to lighten him, he's still got a ton of stuff on him.

Written by Jason ask, and illustrated by me, this 150 page graphic novel was a real labor of love. I'm glad it's done, but I'm proud of my accomplishment.

Mr. Mistoffelees

Mr Mistoffelees Japanese Chorus costume! :3
Admittedly, I'm not entirely thrilled with the wig... I may make another one when I get a chance....

And a really quick videooooo:

mouse :3

A Mouse in the Cats musical style!

Wig turnaround....

Annnd the full costume.

I'm not too sure on the make-up though... this was my first time attempting a non-cat. Extending the mouth edges down makes her look a little sad

Dex-Starr.... DC comics more adorable Red lantern

Introducing Dex-starr... DC comics Red lantern :3

Dex features a mix of fur, spandex and stretch velvet. I padded the bodysuit to give the impression of feline shape without having to make a fursuit that would just be covered with a unitard anyway.

He doesn't spit napalm though ^_^;;;

Scar head - Lion King Musical - shoulder harness thingy

Starting work on Scar's shoulder harness thingy....
Why attempt to bend REAL bamboo when I can make a mold of it in Silicone and cast it in resin instead?
I bought a chunk of Bamboo in the flower arranging section of my local craft store and cut it in half, then made a cast with Smooth-on Rebound 25.

Fulled the completed mold with Resin. Once the resin had changed color, but was still pliant, I bent it into the curved shape I required.

Once completely hardened, I have a perfect curved bamboo base :3

Scar head - Lion King Musical - head complete!

Woooo! Head is finally done. I'm quite proud of it ^_^

The head is mounted to a skull cap made of ABS plastic. I plastered my head with plastercloth, then vacuuformed a base. I covered the base wit Kanekalon to give Scar his hair instead of making a separate wig. With hair covers the zip ties and bolts holding the rigging of the head in place.

No, the head doesn't move... It would have been wonderful, and I might attempt it in the future, but the wiring and coding was just a little too complicated for me T_T

A make-up test... It'll look a lot better when I can pin down the sideburns so they don't flare out so much. I think I have the make-up down now.

Scar Lion King Musical - Head and Mane

Mooore scar...
I cast my first head with Resin in a slush cast.
Some bondo and a lot of sanding got the head just the way I wanted it :D

Paint job.... I started with a base of Dark watered down brown, then dry brushed a rusty orange and lighter tan color over top. The dry brushing highlights the raised sections and keeps the grooves dark.

Adding the mane... I am using strips of pre-cut styrene I found at the hobby store in the model train section. I hand drilled holes into the styrene strips and inserted wire into the holes for additional reinforcement to the head.

Scar Lion King Musical - casting

More Scar stuff.... finished head sculpting:

And casting.... I'm using Smooth-on Rebound 25. It was a whole evening of mixing small amounts, and gooping it on slowly.

Gilbert

Gilbert costume complete! Gilbert is from the Japanese version of the Cats musical. He plays Ghengis in the Growltiger scene.

And a video :3

I'm Wigging out!

Wigs and wigs and more wigs! This was a big wig weekend for me.

Jemima wig for commission

Gilbert Wig (the colors are so very Halloweeny :D)

I didn't entirely like my original Swedish Mungojerrie wig, so I made a new one.
This is the new one (thinner mohawk with more orange.... I tried to blend the colors more)

This is the old wig (chunkier mohawk.... chunkier colors)

Robin - Tim Drake

Just in time for Halloween... Tim Drake's version of Robin!

Yes, I AM a girl under there... I'm wearing a body shaper to reduce my curves and I'm sucking in my cheeks a little to give me a more male jaw.
I made everything but the belt and the mask on this costume.

Trying to time kicks with the camera on a timer is hard work!

Lion King Musical... make-up test

A Quick make-up test to try out my new creme make-up.
I've only ever really used cake before, so this is a real learning process from what I am used to. I think I need a bit more practice on this face, but I think I've mastered the lips! :I

My Patrick Brown impression:

A Little head comparison to see if the sculpt is the right scale to my head.... Hmm.. looks okay sofar.

Sunday 2 October 2011

Scar Lion King Musical... sculpting!

Started working on the head sculpt....
Durrr... It's getting there!

I keep taking on projects that require sculpting.... yet I keep forgetting I'm not as good of a sculptor as I think I am T_T
On the plus side, scar's head has a lot of angles, so it's more blocky and less subtly shaped.

Scar Lion King Musical

OMG yes... I'm making Scar for the Lion King Musical.... because.... I guess because I'm a little crazy.

Started on the Uni painting today, and painted the shoes:

I admit, I'm really enamored with Scar.... I don't know why, but I've been desperate to make him since I saw the musical. Buy god, I'll do it! 0_o
